COURSES & TRAINING

Our company provides a variety of training and courses throughout the year. These are traditionally Standard First Aid courses, though our instructors are also happy to provide additional specialty courses. To Register click Course Calendar below!

OFFERED COURSES AND PROGRAMS

Here at NPEMA we recognize that not all emergencies occur on land. We also, know that many youth/teens are interested in becoming Lifeguard and obtaining summer jobs. We're happy to provide Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and the National Lifeguard program to candidates. These courses cover the basic steps of water rescue up to the national lifeguard competency for working in an Ontario Pool. STANDARD FIRST AID - AED & CPR LEVEL C

Certified through Red Cross or Lifesaving Society

Standard First Aid (SFA) with Level C CPR and AED training is the corner stone program for level 1 MedVents. It is also the same course commonly required for most jobs and community services. The course is 16 hours long and covers a variety of topics ranging from the basic content of Emergency First Aid to more advanced topics such as diabetic emergencies, trauma and much more.

Cost: $90.00/Scouts Canada member

$100/Non-scouting member - though group rates apply!

ADVANCED WILDERNESS & REMOTE FIRST AID (AWRFA)

Certified through Canadian Red Cross

AWRFA is the Red Cross' remote and wilderness first aid program. This is also the MedVent Level 2 program. Specially created to cover not only cover the basic level of Standard First Aid but to then enhance the program to cover responding to emergencies in the wilderness where 911 may be delayed or not able to respond. This course is taught with at least 50% being outdoors in a wilderness/remote setting to enhance the learning experience. AWRFA is an advanced level 40 hour course which will prepare candidates to create an extrication plan for injured and introduce skills to critically think through common wilderness emergencies.

FIRST RESPONDER (FR)

Certified Through Canadian Red Cross

The First Responder Course is also the MedVent Level 3 program. This course is a 40 hour specialty course which prepares candidates to respond to emergencies in a first responder capacity. Candidates will learn advanced concepts such as vital signs, rapid trauma surveys, Spinal motion restriction techniques, oxygen delivery and much more. EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER (EMR)

Certified Through Canadian Red Cross

The EMR program is an 80 hour course, with the first 40 hours being the First Responder program, the EMR program takes learners well beyond the basics of Standard First Aid. EMR's will learn advanced techniques such as insertion of Nasal-Pharyngeal airways, to symptom relief (medication administration) and transportation of patients. The EMR program is recognized by various Paramedic organizations as a core competency for the Paramedic program and in the Prairies west to BC EMR's are able to work with ambulance services. Please contact us to learn more about this program!

Bronze Medallion, Cross & National Lifeguard Programs

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Certified Through Canadian Red Cross

Designed to build participant confidence in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills and provide the important steps to perform a rapid assessment, perform Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, and perform rapid defibrillation. Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy can also be added as additional certifications to this course.
